German LG Optimus 2X to be Aptly Named Optimus Speed

While some smartphone names are more fanciful than others, there’s nothing quite like one that’s just a straightforward, cut-and-dry assessment of the phone. That looks to be the case with the German localization of the upcoming LG Optimus 2X, which is reported to be named the Optimus Speed.

After all, with a dual-core Tegra2 processor, the first such chip in a smartphone, the Optimus 2X is poised to deliver some serious performance upon its release. Thankfully, the phone’s development name, the LG Star, has been dropped in favor of these more descriptive titles. Even the 2X isn’t bad, assuming you make the connection that it’s referring to the device’s dual cores, but this German name is just spot-on; what other assumption could a consumer make upon seeing the phone’s name than that it’s one of the fastest models available?

The Optimus 2X will first drop in Asia, with Korean users getting the earliest chances to see how those dual cores handle their processing demands. LG has said that the phone’s European release will follow thereafter, but we don’t know precisely when Germany will finally get the Optimus Speed.
