Microsoft Updates Bing for Mobile Android and iPhone Apps

Windows Phone 7 isn’t the only mobile platform capable of accessing robust Bing search features. Today, Microsoft updated their Bing for Mobile Android and iOS applications. The update brings some much appreciated features to both apps.

On the Android front, the update gives users the ability to bookmark images, expand search capabilities through a widget that can ping third party apps, share plans with friends, make restaurant reservations with OpenTable, and even order takeout with GrubHub. Bing will also detect “what’s nearby” and list full category search pages for you.

Bing for iPhone received a homepage facelift with a concentration on easier maneuverability, better auto-suggest feature, the same OpenTable and GrubHub integration as Android, and a new mobile mapping feature, called Bing Streetside, which provides a multi-street panorama of a location for virtual touring. The latest version also brings social networking features by allowing users to check-in with Bing and simultaneously update their status on Facebook, Foursquare and Windows Live Messenger. That’s not all, as Microsoft was gracious enough to add location-based reminders, voice search powered by Microsoft TellMe, and camera search with “Bing Vision.”

Although Microsoft has reemerged in the mobile space with a new breed of Windows Phone, they clearly haven’t abandoned their efforts on other platforms, which we dig. As always, you can download the latest version of Bing for Mobile by taking a trip to the App Store or Android Market. Let us know what you think of the added features in the comments below!
