Motorola CLIQ 2 Still on Track for T-Mobile Release?

T-Mobile still appears poised to release a followup to the Motorola Cliq, despite the so-called Cliq 2’s rumored release date of November 1st having come and gone. The brand name “Cliq 2” has just been published for opposition by the US Patent and Trademark Office, which is the final step before an official mark is issued. While the mark was originally applied for back in August — cleverly declining to classify the device as a “smartphone” — it usually takes several months for the approval process to be completed; like HTC, T-Mobile seems to commercially employ nearly every single branding that it is granted a trademark for, with concurrent applications for Comet, G2, and MyTouch HD all having recently found their way into Magenta’s smartphone lineup.

According to Engadget, which first tipped the phone’s existence, the QWERTY slider will run Android 2.2 Froyo skinned with MotoBlur, offer Wi-Fi calling and 3G mobile hotspot support, and feature an “interesting,” gapless keyboard. The original Cliq was first released over a year ago, with the keyboard-less Cliq XT having occupied shelves for nearly nine months now.
