Windows Phone 6.5 Bing Service Halted for Non-U.S. Users

After Microsoft updated its Bing for Windows Phone 6.x application back in May to add turn-by-turn voice prompting navigation in the new 5.1 version, Redmond has stopped supporting non U.S. users of the application.

The above message is displayed when trying to run the cooked-in stock application on the HTC HD2, which is one of the most recent Windows Phone 6.5 devices. Microsoft is aware of the issue as it was the Company’s call to turn the switch off; they “decided to optimize the Bing app for the newer Windows Phone devices to ensure the best mobile search experience”. That is, Windows Phone 7 relegates Windows Phone 6.x users to the back seat and, while U.S. users can update to the new app, those outside the States will not be able to take advantage of Bing’s features. You can always access http://m.bing.com, according to Microsoft.
