Transparent Windows Phone 7 Lockscreen Wallpaper
Jumping from Windows Phone 6.5 to 7 may feel somewhat claustrophobic to some, since the level of customization has been significantly reduced. That’s why it’s refreshing to see users come up with clever methods of personalizing their new Windows Phones beyond traditional means. For example, we previously posted about a user-created custom wallpaper that compliments the information on the lockscreen. Well, another user decided to test the waters with a transparent wallpaper.
As you can see in the video below, the Start screen can be seen through the wolverine-inspired claw marks on the wallpaper. The transparent layer doesn’t actually show until you touch the screen, which is a unique side effect of using such a wallpaper. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing some sweet designs from the artists at XDA.
If you want the wallpaper shown in the video, you can download it from the creator’s blog. Oddly enough, the transparency will only hold if you download the wallpaper on your computer, send it to yourself via email, download the image attachment on your Windows Phone, open the image, and finally set it as the wallpaper from there. Using the other method found in the settings menu doesn’t seem to work, as the image loses its transparency level. It’s also worth noting that the Zune software can’t sync PNG files, so you can’t go that route either.
Update: looks like the designs are starting to roll in. Added two more previews to the post (above), but check them all out in the comments.
