Latest Swype Android Beta Cleans Up Installation, Squashes Bugs

A new beta release of Swype for Android is now available for testers, making updating future software releases a lot more streamlined and adding in some new bug-fixes.

While this update doesn’t have hot new features like the last beta’s double-tap-to-edit, letting you quickly correct words Swype got wrong, or its voice-to-text mode, the changes to the software’s installer will let you continue to check out beta release of the virtual keyboard while hopefully having fewer issues getting the program set up.

If something goes awry while you’re installing Swype, the software now has the ability to detect the aborted installation, verify what files still need to be put into place, and repair your copy of Swype.

There are also some interface improvements in the installer, letting you pre-configure Swype as your default keyboard, and pointing new users to instructional videos to bring them up to speed on how to interact with the software.

As for Swype itself, the bug-fixes deal with problems that were mostly device-specific, so if you ran into some weird behavior that you couldn’t reproduce on a friend’s phone, be sure to grab the latest beta and see if your issue hasn’t been resolved. The new beta is available to testers now.
