HTC Knight-like Android Smartphone Revealed?
HTC has just received Wi-Fi Alliance certification for a device with model number PG05100, which may end up being in the same product line as the rumored HTC Knight (pictured), an allegedly Froyo-powered QWERTY slider whose model number is said to be the similar PG06100. Like the Knight, the PG05100 supports 802.11 b/g/n, but unlike the former device — which we know from FCC documents to be WiMax-capable, making a Sprint appearance likely — this newest handset both adds in WMM Power Save features and has been CWG-RF-certified for specific cellular/Wi-Fi convergence requirements. It has the exact same Wi-Fi profile as just six other HTC handsets, including the HTC Merge and HTC Vision (Desire Z).
A previous leak on XDA had dubbed the supposed 3.7-inch Knight as the HTC Evo Shift 4G, but as we saw in the other day, HTC has abandoned its claim on that trademark. So what is this mysterious PG05100? A Knight without the keyboard? Perhaps a rebranded version of the Knight destined for Clear’s WiMax network? Knight mini? For all we know, it could be none of the above, simply a future smartphone with any number of features headed for any or several carriers domestic and/or foreign. We should know a bit more when PG05100 slides through the FCC, so we’ll be keeping an eye out.
