T-Mobile UK: Sorry for Galaxy’s Froyo Delay

The Samsung Galaxy S Series of phones are really quite impressive. At least their hardware is impressive. Software-wise, the phones suffer from “bad timing” syndrome. By that, I mean they Galaxy S phones were well on their way to being finished when Google released Android 2.2 Froyo — leaving the Samsung devices running Android 2.1 Eclair.

Since there’s nothing worse than selling a new phone with an old OS, Samsung promised us they were working on Froyo and would release it to all Galaxy S devices as soon as possible. The T-Mobile UK version of Vibrant (a Galaxy S phone) was to be the first to get the update to the latest OS, in fact, they promised to have it ready by December 1st, 2010. By my calendar that date has come and gone.

TechRadar hopes “Android 2.2 lands by next Friday from T-Mobile, which we’re assured it will … “ based in part upon T-Mobile UK’s apology:

“T-Mobile apologises for any inconvenience caused by the delay in 2.2 FroYo update for the Samsung Galaxy S. … It is our priority to ensure that the update will provide our customers with the best possible experience and we are working hard to make this happen as soon as possible.”

T-Mobile reportedly wouldn’t comment as to the cause of the delay.
