According to the information collected by Android Developers, Android 2.2 Froyo now operates 43.4% of all Google platform powered devices recently browsing the Market, with Android 2.1 Eclair coming in close at 39.6%.

The currently active four versions of the operating system running simultaneously on smartphones will soon have a fifth one added to the list as Android 2.3 is supposed to arrive anytime soon, and we can’t help but wonder which one of the numbers will start declining after Gingerbread’s release. The ideal would be for legacy versions, such as Android 1.5 (6.3%) Cupcake and Android 1.6 Donut (10.6%) to slowly disappear or else Steve Job’s comments on fragmentation will have a completely new meaning to them.
