The California Institute of Technology decided to enter the lawsuit game as it brought companies like LG, Pantech, Nokia, Toshiba and STMicro to the Los Angeles court on November 24, claiming the aforementioned companies infringed nine camera related patents with their mobile phones and components.

Six years ago, the Pasadena university sued Canon and Nikon among other camera manufacturers for infringing six patents for pixel sensors but the recent lawsuit is referring to sensor technology being used in mobile phones. Caltech is seeking unspecified damages for willful infringement and, according to Business Week, nobody was available for comment except STMicro that didn’t comment on litigation.
