ChevronWP7 Unlocker Pulled as Devs, Microsoft Talk Homebrew
ChevronWP7 is discontinuing the Windows Phone 7 unlocking tool effective immediately after engaging in discussions with Microsoft about officially facilitating homebrew development on the platform.
Just after releasing the application that allows users to set custom ringtones on their unlocked Windows Phone 7 devices, the team has established communication with Brandon Watson, Director of Developer Experience for Windows Phone 7 who agreed to engage in further discussions. No more details have been shared but it’s clear that we’re witnessing a battle between the Titans, Microsoft on one side — trying to keep the operating system as locked and safe as possible — and the community and its developers on the other side — trying to unleash the potential of the platform. With forces united and collaboration between the two, not only the product, but the whole community, developers and users would benefit in general. What do you think, will Microsoft’s policy shift or deviate from the guidelines it set up in the light of pressure from the community?
