Samsung GPS Restore App May Fix Ongoing Galaxy S Woes

If you’ve tried fixing the GPS reception on your Samsung phone, following one of the many how-to guides for tweaking your phone’s settings, there’s a chance you ended up making things even worse than when they started. Samsung has now released a restore app that will undo any problems you’ve introduced to your phone’s GPS settings.

Galaxy S users may have noticed a litany of GPS issues creeping up, including slow lock times and inaccurate position data. We’ve posted guides that fellow users have come up with, requiring you to manually adjust phone settings. Since those early work-arounds came out, Samsung’s been sending out patches to affected phones, with the Captivate receiving its in September and the Vibrant fix going out in October.

If, despite these updates, your Galaxy S is still acting wonky, you may have introduced some configuration problem when poking through your GPS settings. The new GPS Restore Application, available in the Android Market for Captivate and Vibrant models, will wipe clean any changes you’ve made to the phone’s original GPS settings. While that doesn’t fix the original GPS problem on its own, it’s worth a shot if you’ve tried the new patches and are still running into trouble.
