AirPrint Not Supporting Your Printer? Here Are Some Alternatives

So yeah, one of the small, but cool features that came to exist with iOS 4.2.1 is wireless printing through a new feature called AirPrint. We could assume Apple would do a good job in having lots and lots of printers being supported by this feature given so many delays in the OS release, though the reality is a bit disappointing. Sadly only a handful of HP printers are supported, and even though the whole idea was that you could use printers connected to your Mac or Windows PC, this feature was shaved a lot during the betas for no apparent reason. Rumors are that iOS 4.3, being released mid December, could fix this, but those are just rumors. If you desperately must print, but aren’t such a Jailbreak fan, there are some alternatives.

– If you own a Mac, the good thing is there is a solution, but the bad thing is that it’s not free. Printopia is a service that’ll cost you $9.99. It works with both local and network connected printers, and it even works through your DropBox folder if you have an account. It does have a limited trial to help you make up your mind here, and if it does satisfy your needs, you can purchase it here.

– If you own a Windows PC, or use Windows on your Mac, AirPrint Activator is free, works on both 32 Bit and 64 Bit systems, and supports both local and network printers. All you have to do is download it here and then simply allow it to work through your FireWall.

If you know of any other solutions, please do us the favor of sharing them with our readers through a comment.
