AirVideoEnabler Brings AirPlay Video to All Apps, Needs Jailbreak
If you’ve taken a moment to mess around with AirPlay support in the latest iOS release, you may have noticed that its ability to transmit video is a bit, well, lacking. Though you can stream audio without restriction, only certain Apple apps are able to share their video feed with another AirPlay device. A workaround for this limitation is now available, in the form of AirVideoEnabler for jailbroken iOS devices.
The problem keeping this fix out of the standard App Store is that it relies upon undocumented system calls to the iOS system software. While developers can pull off some neat tricks using such API calls, Apple won’t approve apps that take advantage of them. For now, the only way to get your hands on the fix is through Cydia.
There’s still the possibility that better AirPlay video-out support will follow in one of the next iOS iterations, removing the need for something like AirVideoEnabler.
