Android Market Adding Content Ratings

People who write or publish apps in the Android Market will have to jump through a few more hoops starting Tuesday, November 30th, 2010. According to an email from the Android Market Team:

“We are introducing an application content rating and filtering system for Android Market. This has been a highly requested feature from both users and developers.” Specifically, they are adding four levels of content ratings:

– All

– Pre-teen

– Teen

– Mature”

To see how apps will be rated, refer to this article in the Android Market Help Center.

End-users will begin to see (or not see) apps based on their rating in “a fews weeks”. Existing, unrated apps will be treated as “Mature” after that time.

The other restrictions, prohibitions, and guidelines of the Android Market Content Policy will remain the same.
