Dell Brings Unlocked Streak Tabletphone to U.S. in New Colors

Dell has begun selling an unlocked version of its five-inch, Android-powered Streak tabletphone for $579 directly from its website. What’s more, the AT&T-compatible handset is getting a pair of new color options in red and white (with the latter only available from Best Buy), as well as the option to bundle in a 32GB microSD card for $99. Even better, the black Streak is now shipping with Froyo preloaded, while the red and white versions are curiously stuck on Android 1.6 until a promised upgrade hits in the coming weeks.

The Streak has been enjoying a somewhat unrivaled existence at its size, but that looks to change in the coming months with Acer’s latest creation, a 4.8-inch tabphone whose 480 x 1024 resolution makes for a rare 21:9 aspect ratio. Other than these two devices, the largest screen sizes we’ve seen so far have maxed out at 4.3 inches, although we expect that to change with the higher supported resolutions in Android 2.3.Gingerbread.
