Verizon Quietly Debuts Motorola Droid 2 Global, Post-Release

Verizon has finally introduced the Motorola Droid 2 Global through official channels — over a week after the handset went on sale alongside the Droid Pro on the carrier’s website. In one of the strangest rollouts in recent memory, the D2G quietly replaced the original Droid 2 in Big Red’s lineup after literally months of leaks (remember when it was called the Droid 2 World Edition?), only now being acknowledged not by a press release but a short blurb on Facebook.

Slotting in at the same price point — $199.99 on two-year contract — this revised Droid 2 brings a SIM slot with support for four GSM bands (though it will not work on AT&T stateside, reportedly) as well as an upgraded 1.2GHz processor. A bit unusually, the five-megapixel camera has gained a small hump of unknown functionality; its specs are identical to its predecessor’s, so this may be a mystery that never gets solved.
