Twitter Updates iPhone App, Finally Offers Push Notifications
This fits well into the “It’s about time” section for this week. Twitter has just updated their iPhone app to version 3.2.1 with a couple of good changes. Aside from some well deserved enhancements to their Retina Display support, they finally figured out how to offer push notifications for any @Mention or direct message that you get. It also offers ensured compatibility to iOS 4.2, easier geotagging of your account, and some other fun stuff.
Now keep in mind, it took me a good minute or two in figuring out where these guys hid the push notifications controls. In the accounts list, hit settings and wait a couple of seconds for the Notifications menu to show up bellow your profile (after the gear animation finishes). Once there, Twitter defaults notifications to happen only when you get @Mentions from people that you follow, but you may change that.
I guess that’s pretty much it, we’ll wait for iOS 4.2 to become a reality to check and see if any enhancement has to do with the OS, given they mention compatibility was taken care of.
