Windows Phone 7 Supports Third-Party Browsers, Sorta (Video)

It turns out that in Windows Phone 7, third parties can offer their browsers in the Marketplace, or at least ones that are based off of Internet Explorer for WP7. Enter Browser Plus, a $1 browser available for Windows Phone 7 that takes IE and adds some great functionality. Browser Plus allows you to see your tabs without having to dive into a second menu. Also, you can view pages in a “reader view” which will strip away page elements, similar to what you get in Safari. Another cool feature is that you get quick access to a Google search from next to the address bar. The program isn’t perfect, so expect the occasional crash and malfunction, and remember that landscape support isn’t there yet. In the end you’re paying $1 to add a better tabbed interface onto an already great browser in Windows Phone 7. Hopefully we’ll see more third party browsers enter the Marketplace in the near future!
