Black LG Optimus T Already Free on T-Mobile
Here’s something you don’t see too often: a brand new smartphone offered free on contract directly from a carrier. Well that’s the deal T-Mobile’s got going with its newly-released LG Optimus T, its mid-range Optimus One variant, although only the black version seems to be the beneficiary of this web-only deal: titanium and burgundy T’s still cost $29.99 after $50.00 mail-in rebate. Usually we see retailers like Amazon or Best Buy with free-on-contract promotions, but rarely does one of the big four service providers give away newly-released smartphones.
These past few months have seen smartphones race towards the magical mark of free, with the T-Mobile Comet recently hitting shelves with just a ten dollar price tag attached. Of course there’s a trade-off to be had here, mainly the fact that this inexpensive hardware tends to use more dated components. The Optimus One pushes a 600MHz processor and HVGA screen, but otherwise includes the full suite of Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS radios one expects from a Froyo-equipped handset.
