Back in July there was a rumor according to which all of Microsoft’s employees will receive free Windows Phone 7 handsets as a Company employee tweeted that “Every single microsoft employee will get a windows phone 7”.

Yesterday, at the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference, CEO Steve Ballmer announced that every attendee will receive a new Windows Phone 7 device, roughly 1,000, but the Company is planning on giving all their employees handsets and rumor is Microsoft will also pay for these data plans (PDC attendees receiving devices will have to arrange this by themselves).

Guy Gilbert, Microsoft Windows Phone Executive confirmed the rumor and stated “every Microsoft employee will be getting a Windows Phone 7 phone” but couldn’t go so far and confirm that every Microsoft employee is actually using a Windows based mobile device.
