Palm, HP Prepping Five to Six webOS Phones for 2011?

HP is said to be planning five to six new webOS phones for release next year, according to the China Economic News Service, along with a Palm-built tablet. CENS apparently picked up this information from so-called industry sources, likely employees of OEM giants Foxconn and Compal, which are said to be splitting the production duties. Foxconn is said to be manufacturing either four or five webOS smartphones plus the rumored tablet, while Compal is reportedly contracted for a single handset.

No specific details about any of these products were given, though the total number of releases is not all that surprising given the shot in the arm HP has given Palm — by way of cash and labor — since it acquired the struggling firm earlier this year. Palm has already released its first post-acquisition product in the form of the Pre 2 (currently shipping in France and soon to land on Verizon stateside, we’re told), as well as finalized the next major revision of its platform, webOS 2.0 (now branded HP webOS).

Note: The mockup above does not represent any of the rumored products; it is only being used for illustrative purposes.
