Super-Widescreen Acer Android Handset Appears
Thai site DroidSans has posted several shots of a never-before-seen Acer smartphone running Android and sporting an unusual widescreen body style. At first glance it appears that camera angle might account for the uniquely long shape, but a second in-hand comparison shot (below) clearly shows a device whose aspect ratio is closing in on the 21:9 found on LG’s BL40 Chocolate Touch (which sports a 345 x 800 resolution).
Besides the front-facing camera and Dolby Digital logo visible in the photos, nothing else is known about this mysterious device, which looks polished enough to seemingly be production-ready. Acer’s most recent Android handset, the upcoming Liquid Metal, is said to be a Froyo-powered slate running an 800MHz processor (a la the T-Mobile G2) and equipped with Bluetooth 3.0. In general, we’ve found that while Acer phones tend to contain good components, build-quality is usually sub-par and the software is often less-polished than comparable offerings from HTC or Samsung.
