Microsoft: 1,000 Windows Phone 7 Apps By US Device Launch

Microsoft is reportedly spreading the word that it anticipates over 1,000 apps to be available in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace by the time devices launch in the US on November 8th. This according to consummate Microsoft observer Paul Thurrott, who claims to have received word from the company that 450 apps are already live with “hundreds more going through certification as we speak.” We had previously heard that the number of titles at launch would number over 2,000, so we’re not sure if expectations have been lowered or if that prior information was incorrect.

Thurrott also notes that the Windows Team Blog has started an App-a-Day page for Windows Phone 7 programs, in an effort to highlight various titles. The site is currently only populated with six write-ups, and the lack of an RSS feed means that you’ll need to check in daily if you want to catch the latest featured software.
