Andy Rubin’s First Tweet is a Response to Steve Jobs [Update]

After calling Android his biggest competitor even though it “is very very fragmented and becoming more fragmented by the day”, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs then aimed and shot in the general direction of Google and it’s mobile platform on a company conference call he jumped in.

Andy Rubin, Android architect and vice president of engineering at Google seems to have made his first tweet ever and one that is aimed straight at Steve Jobs. The tweet is nothing else than a code meant to show, in response, the definition of open as Apple’s CEO stated “Google loves to characterize Android as open, and iOS and iPhone as closed. We find this a bit disingenuous and clouding the real difference between our two approaches”.

While there were some doubts that the account is actually belonging to Andy Rubin, Tech Crunch made some research, talked to a few people and it seems to be a legit Twitter account for the Google chief, even though not verified (yet). For those of you who want to save the tweet as a reference or for posterity, here it is: the definition of open: “mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make”

TweetdeckTweet

Update: Looks like TweetDeck’s CEO, Iain Dodsworth, felt the things Steve Jobs said were not quite accurate to say the least and made a tweet (actually, there were two) defending the Google platform as it was by far not perceived as a nightmare the whole development for the platform. Even more, with regards to Android fragmentation, he said “we only have 2 guys developing on Android TweetDeck so that shows how small an issue fragmentation is”.

Wonder who else will jump in to get his tweet against Steve Jobs.
