Microsoft Team up with Synaptics on Windows Phone 7 Devices
Synaptics Inc and Microsoft have announced that the Windows Phone 7 platform developers will have access to native touch support for Synaptics ClearPad capacitive touchscreen solutions.
The Windows Phone 7 operating system utilizes multi-touch technology. Multi-touch is a method of input on a touchscreen that allows two or more fingers to be used on the screen at one time. This enables pinch to zoom gestures and many more features.
ClearPad native multi-touch support simplifies the design-in process for developers, enabling them to easily incorporate Synaptics best-in-class solution. The combination of reliability and performance that ClearPad delivers allows developers to create differentiated products with a competitive advantage.
This arrangement on the surface looks like a good one for both companies, Microsoft have chosen well as Synaptics have some excellent products utilizing the latest technologies when it comes to multi-touch interfaces.
This is another area where Microsoft are standardizing the Windows Phone experience for OEM’s and developers which translates to better hardware and applications that all have a common interface and usability.
Gone are the days when every Windows Mobile device could have a different interface and hardware could go to market severely underpowered creating a bad experience for the consumer
