New WebOS Device to Include 1GHz CPU?

These days, 1GHz on a mobile device seems like standard fare, but tell that to anyone that’s using a WebOS device and they’ll be sure to look at you with big eyes: the Palm Pre Plus clocks in at 600MHz. Many find that by overclocking a Palm Pre Plus to 1GHz, there’s a pretty substantial increase in device speed, which means that the operating system scales well to a faster CPU. In the end, it’s just a matter of how bad you want battery life to become.

New details about HP’s next Palm device are starting to be known. We’ve already learned from the company that new WebOS devices are slated for next year. PreCentral has pored through FCC documentation for a certain Palm P102UEU, which looks to bear a lot of resemblance to the Palm Pre Plus, expect that it has a faster 1GHz CPU. Everything else, from the battery cover to the form factor, appear to be the same. Perhaps this new device, which PreCentral thinks is known internally as Roadrunner, is a mild upgrade to the existing Palm Pre Plus, which will run WebOS 2.0 software, plus have that faster processor. We’re hoping that HP releases some remarkable hardware next year, since all eyes are watching after HP bought Palm.
