Toshiba Demoing Mysterious Android Handset at CEATEC

Toshiba is showing off an Android-powered smartphone at one of its booths at this year’s CEATEC trade show in Japan, although other than the words “Smart 5” written on a piece of tape stuck to the handset, absolutely no information about this mysterious device is available. We say “mysterious,” because Toshiba — and now the combined mobile entity of Fujitsu-Toshiba — has generally been known as a Windows Phone shop, although its presence in North America has been almost non-existent save for a few imported TG01’s.

What we do know is that Tosh is dabbling in Android a bit, having shown off an Android Tablet at last month’s IFA in Germany called the Folio 100. While the product itself didn’t generate much excitement, its codename would certainly seem to be pertinent to the phone spied today: SmartPad.

More info on the “Smart 5” as it becomes available.
