Samsung Transform Rumored For Sprint, Looks Like a Galaxy S

Sprint appears to have a new Android handset on the horizon, dubbed the Samsung Transform, and although it looks a lot like the Galaxy S we’ve come to know and love, several facts seem to preclude this possibility. First, and most obviously, Sprint already carries a Galaxy S variant in the form of the QWERTY-equipped Epic 4G. Now this wouldn’t be the first time two phones hit a manufacturer in keyboard and keyboard-less varieties (see: HTC Touch Diamond and Pro lines), but with a name like Transform, we’re expecting something more than your typical black slab.

Secondly, the Epic 4G goes by model number SPH-D700, while the Transform reportedly sports the alphanumeric combo SPH-M920; it seems odd that one Galaxy model would be a D-series handset while another supposedly sat in the M-line. For reference, Verizon’s Galaxy S, the Samsung Fascinate, bears the model number SCH-I500. Plus, the position of the battery as indicated in FCC documents doesn’t seem to match up with its location on other Galaxy S variants (though its 1500mAh capacity is a Galaxy staple).

Once again, we’ll simply have to wait and watch for this one, although our wait may not be too long; as Engadget points out, another device pictured in the slide — RIM’s BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330 — has just recently been announced for Sprint’s lineup.
