AT&T Announces BlackBerry Curve 3G, Pearl 3G
Wireless carrier AT&T has announced that Research in Motion’s consumer-focused BlackBerry Curve 3G and BlackBerry Pearl 3G will indeed be coming to the carrier in time for the holiday. The revised Curve and Pearl brands will be gaining 3G GSM radios to support the carrier’s HSPA network, a first for a consumer BlackBerry that operates on a GSM network although the enterprise-targeted BlackBerry Bold has had a 3G radio for GSM networks for a while now.
AT&T is saying that the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, model number 9100, will launch on October 17th in the U.S. for $149 on contract, which seems a bit steep considering the $99 price point of the Curve 3G model. Users who purchase either phone would be required to add a BlackBerry data package. The Pearl 3G maintains the 2 characters per key SureType keyboard while the Curve 3G will have the clickier full QWERTY arrangement. Exact availability of the Curve 3G was not disclosed.
