After stagnant adoption of its Tegra chipsets, chipmaker NVIDIA, known primarily for its graphics processor, is finally making inroads with its Tegra 2 processors. According to the DigiTimes, NVIDIA has signed on several smartphone and tablet makers to deploy the Tegra 2 dual-core processing chips inside their forthcoming handhelds, including Motorola, Asus, HTC, and Toshiba. Recently, the Tegra 2 has been swaying smartphone and tablet makers because of its full 1080p HD video encoding and decoding capabilities, longevity of battery life on a single charge, 3D performance, and full Flash support. As smartphone operating systems get more graphics intensive and with faster mobile broadband speeds on the horizon, NVIDIA is hoping that its graphics history will help it to push Tegra’s boundaries for the future with more HD video recording, HD Internet streaming video, Android’s Flash 10.1 support, and long battery life.
