Mysterious Toshiba TG03 Passes Through GCF, OS Unknown
Toshiba’s mysterious TG03 smartphone has passed through the Global Certification Forum sporting quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS (800MHz/850MHz/2100MHz) radios, but since we haven’t heard anything about this model in over a year, we really have no idea what form it will take now. First spotted in early 2009, the 03 was supposed to be the third Windows Mobile 6.x handset in the TG line, following the TG01 and TG02. The TG01 has gone on to see some success due to its being early out of the gate with a Snapdragon processor, and although the TG02 has shown up at the FCC and MWC, we’re not aware that it’s actually available to buy anywhere at this time.
The TG03 was originally supposed to outdo the TG02 with three-channel speaker and five-megapixel camera, which itself topped the 4.1-inch, WVGA TG01 by packing Windows Phone 6.5 right out of the box and offering an allegedly waterproof case. Now, however, we have no idea what operating system the TG03 might run on, let alone how its features may have changed in the 18 months since it first appeared on a leaked roadmap. We’re not exactly sure how they should spec this thing out to make it a premiere handset in late 2010 — Toshiba is a Windows Phone 7 hardware partner, after all — but we do know someone who might.
