What’s Coming in CyanogenMod 6.1

The current version of CyanogenMod ROM (my favorite Custom ROM for Android) is currently 6.0.0. It’s based on the Froyo AOSP codebase with a lot of tweaks, optimizations, and improvements from the community and runs on phones ranging from the HTC Dream (G1) to the Google Nexus One. In my opinion, CyanogenMod is what Android is all about. It’s fast, it’s clean, and it reflects the work of the people who actually use it.

So, what’s on deck for the next version of CyanogenMod? 6.1 is the current work-in-progress and, according to Cyanogen himself, it’s “coming together nicely”.

New Features:

– Touch-to-focus in the camcorder

– Dismiss notifications by swiping

– Kernel updates for most devices

– Improved performance

New Devices That May be Supported:

– Acer Liquid

– HTC Wildfire

– Samsung Vibrant

– HTC G2

Of course, these are forward looking statements and may change as time marches on, but for the time being, these are the highlights of the upcoming version. The best way to stay up-to-date on new changes and nightly builds is to follow @cmsrc on Twitter.

What new features would you like to see in CyanogenMod? What new phone would you like supported?
