Pantech, ZTE Unveil WVGA Android Handsets

You don’t hear the names Pantech nor ZTE too much when discussing the US smartphone market — mainly because the companies have almost zero presence here — but they continue to release handsets overseas, with a pair of Android slates having been revealed today.

ZTE’s offering comes in the form of the Eclair-equipped San Francisco from Orange UK (pictured top), a 600MHz-powered Android 2.1 device with 3.5-inch, WVGA display of the OLED variety, as well as a 3.2-megapixel camera, all the radios you could hope for, and Orange’s cornucopia of branded services. San Francisco meets High Street this week for 99 pounds (~$154) on a pay-as-you-go plan.

Less information is known about the Pantech SKY IM-A690S, an unannounced, Korea-bound handset whose only evidence of existence lies in a leaked advertisement (pictured above). Assuming that this document is the real deal, South Korean consumers can expect a Froyo-powered device with 3.5-inch WVGA screen, five-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal memory, and mobile TV along with likely pay-from-the-phone capabilities.
