Windows Phone 7 to See Feature-Limited Foreign Launch?

According to a tipster cited by WMExperts, Windows Phone 7 will launch in many languages with several key features either limited or missing altogether. If true, perhaps the most distressing reported omission is keyboards for languages other than English, French, Italian, German, or Spanish — the so-called EFIGS languages. Also likely irksome to non-EFIGS Windows Phone fans — and there are many of them — would be the alleged lack of “localized phone menus,” with only the browser and email clients supposedly supporting native character sets.

The list goes on to mention “limited Marketplace functionality” as well as no Xbox Live or Zune services; the lack of Zune features wouldn’t affect many users as the Zune Marketplace isn’t currently available outside of North America, but with many countries enjoying Xbox Live, its presence would also surely be missed. However, even if this report is true, like Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Phone 7 will likely mature to the point where all features are supported in all languages — especially since Microsoft is clearly trying to broaden the reach of both the Zune and Xbox brands.
