Fido Rumored to Get Acer Liquid e, First Android Device
Canadian carrier Fido may be getting its first Android handset in the form of Acer’s Eclair-powered Liquid e, if a respected Howard Forums poster is to be believed. Gold member WorldIRC claims that Fido will be launching the 768MHz device “very soon” — and that post was published on the 3rd, over a week ago. Mobile syrup has supplemented this information by reporting that employee training for the phone has already begun, and that it is expected to sell for $50 on two-year contract, or $350 retail.
With Fido’s current smartphone lineup limited to just the iPhone 4 and a pair of BlackBerries (the Curve 8520 and Pearl 8100), it would seem that even a spottily-reviewed Android piece would be a welcome addition. At $50, the Liquid e would cost $20 more than the Curve, but $109 less than the cheapest iPhone 4 on contract. Fido also continues to carry the iPhone 3GS, which it offers for the standard $99.
