Nike+ GPS App For iOS Now For Everyone, Bye Bye Sensor

As things were a couple of days ago, the Nike+ service included in recent iPods, the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 was first of all only available to these devices, and second, only useful to those who owned a pair of Nike’s and bought the sensor that goes with it. I’m a die hard Adidas fan just like many who simply prefer other brands to Nike for one reason or the other, which in turn would limit the amount of potential customers for the App, and not to mention the $30 sensor. The only sad part of it all was that the concept of the service was really cool even with its limits.

So, as things stand, it seems Nike got the picture and has now made the service available for everybody… Or almost everybody. Sensor or no sensor, Adidas or Reebok, as long as your iOS device carries iOS 4 or above, you’re golden. Sadly the list doesn’t include compatibility with the 1st Gen iPhone, 1st Gen iPod Touch and iPhone 3G which is expected with Apple’s recent discrimination to early adopters. Obviously your idevice requires a GPS to have this functionality working, but that’s not all that’s included within the package.

So yeah, if you’re interested in tracking yourself while you jog, challenging yourself, sharing your stuff on Nikeplus.com, paying $2 and having a couple of extra community services, hit iTunes for your copy.
