iPhone 3GS Coming to T-Mobile This Year, Says Store Rep

According to Wired editor Chris Anderson, via Twitter, a T-Mobile retail manager revealed to him that the carrier would be selling the iPhone 3GS “later this year.” Of course we all know how unreliable cellphone salespeople can be, but it’s entirely possible that this alleged manager does in fact have some inside information, info that he’d be more than happy to share with the longtime editor-in-chief of Wired magazine.

We do have strong indications that AT&T’s exclusive lock on the iPhone will be over sooner rather than later, although so far most sources have pointed to a January launch of the iPhone 4 on Verizon. This is the first time we’ve heard of a possibly imminent landing on T-Mobile, much less one of the 3GS variety. At this point we’re not going to pass judgment either way — we’re much more interested in hearing feedback on consumer interest in such a product. What would be the factors you’d consider in purchasing last-generation hardware from T-Mo?
