Nokia Releases Swype Beta for Symbian Touchscreen Keyboard
Nokia and Swype Inc have partnered to bring the latter company’s popular touchscreen keyboard to a handful of Symbian-powered devices. Specifically, the Swype Beta for Symbian is designed to work with the N97, N97 mini, X6, C6-00, 5800, and 5230 S60 5th Edition handsets, giving Nokia customers the same record-breaking text input method already available to Windows Phone and Android users for some time now.
Since the unique method of data entry comes pre-installed on many phones these days (reportedly 50 total by the end of the year), some of you are already familiar with its marriage of predictive text and sliding a finger between on-screen letters — a combination that delivers speeds capable of breaking Guinness World Records twice in under six months.
Although this is a beta test, the company claims that it “will not be making any major changes to Swype,” adding that “Swype for S60 5th Edition devices is feature complete and nearing it’s final stages of development.” Users can install the software either via SD card or through the Nokia PC Suite.
