TomTom For iPhone Updated, Adds Sharper Maps for iPhone 4
TomTom has announced a updated version of its navigation application for iOS, with the most important improvement being support for the iPhone 4’s high-density Retina Display. According to the Dutch-based manufacturer and software developer, version 1.5 “delivers high resolution graphics, sharper maps, more-responsive menus and improved positioning even in areas with limited GPS reception.” We’re guessing that the improved positioning is due to a combination of the digital compass, accelerometer, and new gyroscope.
Also included in the updated app is a feature that allows users to navigate directly to a geo-tagged photo taken with the phone’s camera, something owners of ALK’s CoPilot 8 Live program are already familiar with. Finally, the upgrade includes the latest maps of whatever regions happen to be covered, as might be expected. TomTom U.S.A. for iPhone 1.5 currently costs $39.99 when purchased new, and ten dollars more for Canadian coverage.
