HTC ‘HD7’ Listed on Purported O2 Internal Document
A spreadsheet purporting to be an internal planning document for UK carrier O2 has surfaced over at Engadget, and one of the models listed is called the HTC HD7.
The going theory — thanks to the tipster who delivered the screenshot — is that this model is actually the spiritual successor to the wildly-popular HD2, but that HTC decided to skip HD3 through HD6 in order to keep the branding in line with Windows Phone 7.
Now there are a lot of things that could be going on here, including the fact that this document is a total forgery; spreadsheets are some of the easiest “evidence” to fake. And even assuming that what we have here is genuine, it is entirely possible that “HD7” is simply O2’s internal codename for a device we’ve already seen, like the Mozart/Schubert. One would think that, given HTC’s history of either intentional or unintentional leaks, a true successor to the HD2 would have shown up in some form or another already, given the spreadsheet’s claim of an October 18th launch.
Takeaway: we’re mighty skeptical of both the veracity of this document and the spin being given here, but given the delicious possibilities of a juiced-up HD2, we want to believe.
