Well what do you know.. iPhones really can do more than just help you text your grandma, huh.. CBS News just reported that Vincent Hunter, a Dallas resident, was out of town visiting his family when he got a push notification on his iPhone of movement sensed on his empty house..

According to Hunter, his home security system consisting on webcams connected to a PC, an internet connection and an iPhone app called iCam (Webcam Video Streaming) were enough for him to get notified that he had two unwanted visitors at home and also allowed him to watch the whole show live while he called 911 for the cops to take care of it. Sadly, it seems the two individuals were not caught in time, but then again, not all stories have a happy ending..

Update: Video included

This $5 app consists of a PC or Mac client that allows you to remotely log on in a P2P safe connection with your iPhone through the iOS app for it to view the action. If you can’t wait for such a solution, here’s the link, but I’ll have to admit this just gave me a good idea for one of our next iOS App Store Picks, so stay tuned if you’d like to see it in action on video to help you decide.
