Samsung R900, First MetroPCS LTE Handset, Finally Pictured?
Photos have leaked of a QWERTY slider by Samsung, said to depict the manufacturer’s first LTE-capable phone for large regional carrier MetroPCS.
According to the Howards Forum thread where the images are posted, the model pictured is the same SCH-R900 “Craft” that we saw pass through the FCC late last month.
By all accounts, the R900 will be a TouchWiz-powered featurephone with 3.2 megapixel camera and dual-mode network capabilities, meaning that it should be equally at home connecting to CDMA or GSM towers; as with all LTE handsets on traditionally CDMA carriers, the Craft will require a SIM card to communicate with MetroPCS’
(really, Verizon’s) speedy fourth generation LTE data network.
LTE promises to be the most pervasive of the nascent 4G technologies, with WiMax its only real competitor since Qualcomm abandoned development of its own CDMA-based alternative known as Ultra Mobile Broadband, in late 2008.
