Meizu M9 Android Smartphone Rips Off Apple’s Retina Display
Meizu, a company not known to shy from controversy, is still attempting to emulate Apple’s smartphone’s design, which may not be a bad strategy aside from patent infringement as it seems Apple is attracting a lot of sales, attention, and mind share in the smartphone space. Meizu, originally known for its Windows CE-powered M8 iPhone knock-off, is now taking another stab at copying Apple with the high resolution 960 X 650 Retina Display, which offers a high pixel density giving text and images the effect of print publishing on the device’s 3.5-inch screen.
The Retina Display will be used on Meizu’s M9 smartphone, which is said to run on Android 2.2 and be heavily skinned and customized. It looks like Meizu will go with something a little more unique this time rather than copying the UI from iOS like it did with the M8. High resolution display coupled with Froyo’s support for Adobe Flash 10.1 might make the M9 a winner.
