US Dell Streak to Skip Android 2.1, Froyo Update Forthcoming

There’s some speculation that the Streak in the US may follow the lead of the UK by offering an Android 2.1 upgrade to hold over users until Froyo rolls out, but as it turns out the US version of the Streak tablet smartphone will go straight from Android 1.6 to Android 2.2 sans 2.1 in between.

The Streak only recently became available in the US, with pricing set at $300 for a 2-year AT&T contract of $550 without a contract but still locked to the carrier.

The Streak is a unique device that dares to embrace a larger touchscreen panel, clocking in at a large 5-inch size, yet still remaining in the smartphone category, unlike the iPad. The Streak, like other Android phones, will also feature the capability to make and take voice calls in addition to accessing 3G mobile broadband data–in this case, either via WiFi or through AT&T.
