“Try Before You Buy” On Apple’s App Store Still Misses The Point!

As I came over a “Try before you buy” section on the App Store a little while ago, the first thing I thought was “Finally!!”.. But,.. I was wrong. You’d think that Apple’s new feature gives you the option to try any app you want for a certain period of time before you decide to buy, but no, it’s just a store filter that’ll give you a list of Lite versions of certain apps.

Surely this may be a good enough solution for some, but the problem is it’s really not a global solution. For starters, it really depends on the developer to be kind enough to build a Lite version of the app. To make matters complicated, the apps that do have a Lite version don’t always give you the opportunity to get the full experience before you decide.

Yeah, I’m on the list of people that really wish Apple would figure this out. True, there is a way to return apps and get a delayed refund if you had second thoughts, but it’ll never be as good as Android’s “return the next day, no questions asked” policy. If Apple is able to pull apps from your device for any reason they deem necessary, how about building this option into a developer API where they determine a trial period to pull their stuff from our devices if we don’t buy? Or how about an API that will lock the app with a “buy me or else” splash screen if your trial period expired? How hard could that be?
