Google Nexus One Now Available for Developers

After retiring the company’s branded Nexus One Android smartphone from consumer sales and eventually killing off the brand, Google has now finally re-opened sales of the Google-phone to Android developers.

Users who wish to purchase the Nexus One as a developer can visit the official Google page for developers to get the details. The registration fee ($25) and the cost of the phone ($529) brings the total cost to around $555 to obtain your unlocked Nexus One for development and testing of the latest apps and wares on Google’s latest OS.

Unfortunately, while the original Nexus One for consumer release comes in two flavors–one for T-Mobile compatibility and the other to support AT&T’s 3G bands–the developer edition is limited to T-Mobile.

While the Nexus One may seem like an older phone by now, it remains the best way to get quick access to Google’s latest OS as Android would be released directly and would not have to go through carriers and OEMs to release. If you need the latest OS right away, the Nexus One provides that route and does back it up with a 1 GHz Snapdragon CPU, AMOLED display, and many sensors and radios that make the device a high-end smartphone.
