BlackBerry Banned in UAE
“CrackBerry” addicts in the United Arab Emirates will have to feed their BlackBerry addiction in some other manner as the government has issued a ban on smartphones from Research in Motion beginning October 11. After entering into a contentious fight with RIM about BlackBerry devices and how information is handled, the move was made in the interest of government security; primarily, the government wanted access to user’s data. In a statement, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority states: “With no solution available and in the public interest … Blackberry Messenger, Blackberry E-mail and Blackberry Web-browsing services will be suspended until an acceptable solution can be developed and applied.”
Similarly, India, which had also approached RIM for access to data, had decided to allow the use of BlackBerry smartphones by their populace without enacting any bans, unlike UAE.
