Samsung Galaxy S Offers Best Overall Android Graphics Performance
The Samsung Galaxy S with its Hummingbird CPU combines the power of a PowerVR chip onboard to deliver the best graphics performance on Android so far. The Galaxy S, also known as the Vibrant, Fascinate, Captivate, and Epic 4G in the US, is said to have three times the graphics performance of many smartphones, and that statement seems to be true when Android and Me ran their benchmark, which shows the Galaxy S to be the graphics leader followed by the Motorola Droid X.
Performance on the Galaxy S is obtained with a 45 nm CPU custom designed by Samsung along with a newer PowerVR GPU than on competing models; the Droid series also uses a PowerVR chip, albeit an older model. According to the benchmark, a PowerVR SGX540 is used by the Galaxy S.
The device also has a 6-axis gyroscope, which means that it can handle some serious gaming. Android needs to attract more developers to build games that can take advantage of performance offered by high-end phones.
