LG Launches Optimus Flagship Line of Devices
Like Samsung has done with the Galaxy S series, and Sony Ericsson with the XPERIA brand, LG is launching a new line of devices to go under the Optimus name, which in Latin means “best.” As the press release mentions, Optimus devices will come in a “variety of Operating Systems”, so it’s very possible that we could see an LG Optimus device run Windows Phone 7 in Q4.
Starting off, LG will launch two devices (though ten are planned for this year): the Optimus One and Optimus Chic. Both come with Android 2.2 Froyo, with the Chic being targeted towards fashion-conscious buyers (shown left, above).
If you look closely at the images, you can see that LG has done some work to the Android interface. The buttons on the bottom allow for four permanent shortcuts, which are hopefully customizable. At the top of each home screen, a series of dots indicates which of the five homescreens you’re currently viewing. Also, if you look at the second device in the image below, it appears that the program menu is segregated into categories and applications, which seems like a smart way to organize the typically long listing of Android programs into more easily-manageable categories.
